Well, another 6 out of 6 on the program this week, but it was a bit harder than normal. While not a big mileage week, only 63kms, the end of the week was tough. Friday's 13km fartlek followed by Saturdays 16km race pace run was the hard one.
The good thing about Saturday's run was it was supposed to be at race pace, 4.30/km. But instead of going out on my own, mancub was being squirmy, so I took him out for a run. They say pushing a jogger should add about 45 seconds/km but I wanted to aim for 4.45. He was soon asleep and it was over before it started. A few hard bits on the hills but when it was all said and done, I was only 10 seconds/km off my race pace (4.40/km). If you use that logic, should I be running my marathon at closer to 4min/km.....I don't think so.
Saturday afternoon though, I was not feeling well. It seems mancub has been kind enough to share his cold with me and right now it's only in my head and hasn't made it to my chest (I hope it stays away). Regardless, this coming week is very easy with a run Tuesday and Wednesday then just a short 3km on Saturday to calm the nerves.
3 more runs, 3 rest days and then the mara. Resting the legs, plenty of sleep and loads of fluids to try and get this cold through as fast as possible. Come the day, if it's still around, there's always drugs to dry the head.
I'm happy with where I'm at and the moment and time to get the head in the right frame for race day. I'll know it will be good, just how good will it be. There will be time to rest come post finish line and that's when I'll take it easy.
Till then, fingers crossed and see you at the start line.
